WordSnap ("we", "our", or "us") is a vocabulary learning tool that helps you capture and learn English words from any webpage or image. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use the WordSnap Chrome extension and web application at wordsnap.cc.
We are committed to protecting your privacy and handling your data responsibly.
Information We Collect
When you use WordSnap, we collect the following information:
- Google account information (name, email address, profile picture) obtained through Google OAuth login
- Screenshots and images you capture or upload for vocabulary analysis
- Words you save to your personal word library
- Basic usage data necessary to provide the service
How We Use Your Information
- To authenticate your identity and maintain your login session
- To store and sync your personal word library across devices
- To process images and extract vocabulary for learning
- To provide word definitions, pronunciations, and example sentences
- To improve the quality and accuracy of our service
Data Storage & Security
Your data is stored securely on Cloudflare infrastructure, including Cloudflare Workers, D1 (database), and R2 (file storage). We use industry-standard security practices to protect your information.
Images you capture are stored in your personal library and are only accessible by you. We do not use your images for any purpose other than providing the WordSnap service.
Third-Party Services
WordSnap uses the following third-party services to provide its functionality:
- Google OAuth — for secure user authentication
- Google Cloud Vision API — for extracting text from images
- OpenAI API — for vocabulary extraction and context analysis
- Cloudflare — for hosting, database, and file storage
Each of these services has their own privacy policies. We only share the minimum data necessary for each service to function.
Data Sharing
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with any third parties for marketing or advertising purposes. Your word library and personal information are private to your account.
Chrome Extension Permissions
The WordSnap Chrome extension requests the following permissions:
- storage — to save your authentication token locally
- activeTab — to inject the screenshot overlay into the current tab
- identity — to authenticate with Google OAuth
- tabs — to open the WordSnap library in a new tab
- scripting — to inject the screenshot capture script into web pages
- host permissions (<all_urls>) — to enable screenshot capture on any webpage
Data Deletion
You can request deletion of your account and all associated data at any time by contacting us at the email address below. Upon request, we will delete your account, word library, and all stored images within 30 days.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify users of any significant changes by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page.
